One of the UK’s leading textile designers, Clarissa Hulse, tells The Lifestyle Editor why she loves to work.

Work: Textile Designer

Describe your work in 5 words?

Colourful, botanical, graphic, maximalist, artisan.

Why did you set up your business?

I started printing and selling scarves over 18 years ago and since then the business has really evolved quite naturally.

Why do you love what you do?

Good question! Creativity feeds my soul and combines my passion for colour and nature…. besides which, I am unemployable!

Who or what inspires you?

Nature is a huge inspiration for me – be it a beautiful sky, watching a David Attenborough programme or unusual plants – it inspired me on all levels.

What is the best advice you have received?

Before embarking on something new, always ask yourself if you would have any regrets.

What can’t you work without?

My camera… and someone on a computer who can do CAD for me!

What has been your best decision in your career so far?

To move from the fashion industry into interiors.

What do you have coming up next for your work?

I am currently working on a number of projects including my bedlinen collection which launches in August, plus a new towel range for next spring and a huge project for a leading high street retailer, which will include everything from ceramics to rugs – so lots of exciting things in the pipeline!

If you could do another job what would you like to do and why?

A midwife – sharing that special moment with others would be amazing.

If you had an extra hour each day what would you do with it?

What I’d give for that! Sleep…exercise… play with my children.

Thank you Clarissa for talking to The Lifestyle Editor.
